Herausgeber Mark Rivett schreibt in seinem Editorial„Almost thirty years ago, Jay Haley (1981) argued, albeit with his characteristic irony, against importing the ‘radical’ ideas of family therapy into mental health contexts. A lot has changed in those thirty years. For instance, in this issue of the Journal, Larner argues that family therapists should cultivate a stance of hospitality rather than suspicion and hostility towards the alternative perspectives that flourish in mental health contexts. Indeed, this issue of the Journal represents the varying positions that family therapists now take in relation to the ‘mental health system’. Some (…) are establishing what family therapy has to offer in terms of relieving the suffering of depressed individuals or those experiencing psychotic symptoms.
